Job Overview:

The Writer Editor - Public Relations will work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and Project Managers (PMs) to develop communications plans to inform and educate the Intelligence and Law Enforcement Communities about the mission, goals, and services available in support the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This position requires the successful candidate to collaborate with the Visual Information Specialist, Writers, SMEs, and other staff to collaborate on communication products in support of the communications plans. The Writer|Editor will write articles of interest concerning the Intelligence and Law Enforcement communities for a variety of audiences to include internal employees, partners, international interests, and the general public. Various articles will be submitted to ensure that the branding message is helpful and easily understood by the intended audience. Complement documents could be uploaded documents to SharePoint sites and work with the SMEs|PMs to ensure the product sites are attractive, offer valuable information, and are user friendly. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • In support of the Executive Team, write and edit, feature new articles, speeches, talking points, congressional testimony, and other written materials for dissemination into a variety of audiences within the Intelligence and Law Enforcement Communities. 

  • Interpret themes and conflicting points of view in expository narratives and policies.

  • Determine independently wheather submissions conform to the current organizational guidelines and whether the information provides full, accurate, and balance coverage of the topic by evaluating content, format, and style.

  • Gather, develop, and review for accuracy of information by researching and interviewing with subject matter experts, program officials, and, in some cases policy makers.

  • Develop and implement communication plans to support branch initiatives.

  • Write, edit, proofread, and format all materials for internal and public dissemination.

  • Compile data, maintain, and organize records on the production and editorial process.

  • Develop liaisons with internal and external entities in order to obtain pertinent information required to prepare, edit, and publish documents and articles. 

  • Ensure that all publication product and dissemination timelines are met.

  • Plan and complete written assignments in accordance with established agency objectives.

  • Analyze and interpret compile information and policies.

  • Address identified complex or controversial problems in presenting information.

  • Publish written documents to social media channels, websites, apps, and other publication platforms.

  • Execute communications strategies by managing the Intelligence and Law Enforcement Communities' databases.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have a Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college in related fields such as Journalism, Mass Communications, Public Relations, and English Literature.

  • Must have one to three years of experience with direct branding messages for a variety of internal and external audiences within the Intelligence and Law Enforcement Communities.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both in writing and speaking.

  • Must have the ability to work independently and on a team.

  • Must have a strong analytical, organizational, and research skills.

  • Must have experience with researching policies and writing policy summaries.

  • Prefer previous direct writing and editing experience supporting a Law Enforcement agency.
